On the very rare occasion that something goes wrong with medical treatment and care, it is vital that there is a clear set of guidelines in place, which clinicians can follow to ensure that the incident is dealt with as efficiently, thoroughly and compassionately as possible.
The Patient Safety Incident Response Framework has been developed by the NHS to set out clear and effective systems and procedures for responding to incidents involving patient safety. The framework ensures consistent actions are undertaken when dealing with such circumstances. It also allows for the opportunity to learn and improve patient safety by increasing understanding of the factors which contributed towards the incident taking place.
