What we do

Our aim is to provide the right care at the right time, in the right place.

We term this healthcare “PrimaryCare+ Services”.  These are low-risk patient procedures which were previously carried out in a hospital setting but which can now be safely undertaken by GPs within practice.  The PCL system is able to bring specialist healthcare directly to patients within their own community.  This relieves pressure on our hospitals and provides patient care in a setting which is more familiar and more convenient.

PrimaryCare+ Services currently available are:

  • Breast Pain Service
  • Cataract Surgery
  • Circumcision
  • Dermatology
  • Echocardiography
  • ENT
  • Hernia
  • Minor Hand Surgery
  • MSK
  • Non Obstetric Ultrasound
  • Vasectomy
  • Optometry
  • Pain Management
  • Triage
  • Referral Support Service
  • H Pylori Breath Tests

In addition, LLR PCL is a dynamic partner in the LLR COVID Vaccination Programme.  We provide end-to-end vaccination site management throughout LLR: administration, volunteer manning, pop-up clinics in bespoke locations, logistics and vaccine management.

We are committed to improving integrated relationships with other providers of care.  These come from a number of sources, including primary care, secondary care and the independent sector.  When required, we also look to work collaboratively with other agencies, such as Local Authorities.

LLR PCL is committed to improving healthcare for the people of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.  Patient satisfaction is at the heart of everything we do.  Our goal is to always positively enhance the patient experience, meeting their needs within a local setting.

PCL’s Four Pillars of Service Delivery

This graphic sets out the four pillars of PCL’s work.  For clarity, none of these pillars are in competition with services provided by General Practice.

PCL supports and facilitates colleagues in General Practice to provide and be enumerated for non-GMS services.  This allows services to be shifted closer to patients from the acute sector, provides the ICB with services and support for those General Practices that seek additional assistance – such as with the enhanced access or back office functions.

Subsidiarity

Subsidiarity is a key principle in commissioning services in General Practice.  This provides additional income for General Practice and a more local service for patients.  As this activity is non GMS contract, it is the Practice’s choice, if they wish to participate
